THE 'FLOWER OF LIFE' AS A MIXED RACE NARRATIVE: A Theory of the Life Cycle, Color, and Identity
2013/2015

40” x 35”
Cut-Outs on Mi-Teintes Paper

Through the language of geometric abstraction, this piece reflects Caribbean culture's creole mixedness and embraces hybridity. Through both strong and subtle, unremarkable color contrasts, the series embodies the beauty of light and dark while using color to critique our pigmentocracy. The unfolding and folding of a geometrically derived flower shows the beginningless, endless cycle of birth, aging, and death.
