THE 'FLOWER OF LIFE' AS A MIXED RACE NARRATIVE (A Theory of the Life Cycle, Color, and Identity)
2013/2015
Cut-outs on layered sheets of paper
40" x 35"

Geometrically derived, drawn with a compass, flower-shapes expand and contract, bloom and wither, in a sequence of cut-outs, similar to time-lapsed photographs. Layered sheets of earth-toned paper, as if pages in a story, reflect the multi-generational mixed-ness of Caribbean culture and identity. The spectra of subtle and unremarkable tonal differences is a critique of pigmentocracies while the literal imagery refers to the universal experience of birth, life, and death.
