- May 3, 2022- Leaf is Folding and Unfolding (Quartet) (2022) was selected for MIMIC: Works about Replication and Simulation, a group exhibition at Manifest Creative Research Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio. - May 27th - June 24th, 2022 - MY STATEMENT FOR THE SHOW:
"I develop projects by starting with works on or of paper, turning to three-dimensional objects, then extending the images and forms to performances in space and time, documented as digital prints and video. I consider representational imagery and abstract formal elements as equally potent conveyors of emotion, meaning, message, and ideas. I remain inspired by Cezanne’s claim: “...right now a moment of time is passing! [The artist] must become that moment.”- From an autumn walk I returned home with a fallen leaf. Covid seemed to render the season particularly beautiful and affectingly brief, the single leaf emblematic of both attributes. I felt powerfully inspired to possess that leaf! I unfolded and folded, crushed and crumpled, then tore the edges of a brown paper bag, until it resembled a leaf. I then drew the leaf’s image in pencil on a separate sheet of white paper. As I observed the actual leaf, holding it between my fingers by its stem, twirling and turning it, engaged by contemplation, I videotaped the movements. I set the leaf down on the wooden floor of my study, and let it go. - Later, in the process of editing the digitally recorded leaf studies and altering the duration of transitions between segments of video, I discovered completely unexpected superimposed images that I immediately “grabbed” as screenshots. The short-lived ‘film-stills’ seen in Leaf is Folding and Unfolding (Quartet) are my attempt to seize the beauty of the autumn leaf and recapitulate the brevity of the season, as I experienced it on my walk. - In the spirit of both Cezanne’s claim and Chuang Tzu’s paradoxical question - “...I dreamt I was a butterfly, or am I now a butterfly dreaming I am a man?” - I ask: during these passing moments, did I possess a leaf, or did a leaf possess me?

- July 8th - July 15th, 2021 - Center for Book Arts, New York, NY- Over the past two weeks I met and interacted with a great group of people while participating in an online workshop taught by the amazing Ben Denzer at the Center for Book Arts in Manhattan. - I made my first stab bind book from brown paper grocery bags. I crushed and crumpled, then carefully un-crumpled, one could say 'rehabilitated', each bag which became a page in a pandemic 'story'. - Through photographs and videos I documented the process of making the book then compiled and edited it all in iMovie. - Check out one of Ben Denzer's websites below where, among an array of playful, experimental projects, he included my A Paper Bag is a Page in a Pandemic 'Story' of a Book is a Movie.
- November 21, 2020 - Now Available: "The Earth Of" Book...- ARTS LETTERS & NUMBERS
Averill Park, NY- "The Earth Of arose from the global pandemic that called a halt to Arts Letters & Numbers’ residency programs in early 2020. A new strategy was necessary to pursue the objective of creative investigation across disciplines, genres, generations and cultural origins. The Earth Of was part online writing workshop, part collaborative research, motivated by a range of working methods in visual art, performance, poetry, architecture, and philosophy. The question became how to integrate into these disparate creative processes the escalating sense of rupture that defines this moment. This anthology is the result."
- July 7, 2020- ARTS LETTERS & NUMBERS
Averill Park, NY- I'm pleased to be participating in The Earth Of, a virtual residency directed by Ginger Teppner, “an online experiment with language and form in search of a novel expression beyond the veneer. Writers and artists will come together to go deep, discuss and share their works and experiences.” - July 6th - July 31st, 2020
