Cut-outs on layered sheets of paper
40" x 35"
Geometrically derived, drawn with a compass, flower-shapes expand and contract in a sequence of cutouts, similar to time-lapse photographs. Like pages in a book, layered sheets of earth-/skin-toned paper imply the complex history and experience of multi-generational, ethno-interracial mixedness. The literal imagery of the flower refers to cycles of birth, life, and death while the spectra of subtle and unremarkable tonal differences is a critique of pigmentocracies.
