Embodying the Ephemeral

This cinematic video stems from my "Flower of Life" series, which is based on a geometric pattern of intersecting circles. Here I explore the motif as a ‘choreographed performance drawing’. Sitting still on an island in a stream as if pulling the sequence of black, abstract shapes from my body – seed, embryo, flower, butterfly - I ceremonially place the layers of the drawing on the ground. Slow-moving gestures are a metaphor for the fluidity of water and the passage of time. As the seasons change so does my attire from black to white against the snow. In an archetypal landscape, a ‘silent ritual drama’ of burial and the stages of grief expresses the deep connection to 'place' from one generation to the next.
